Forest Hills

Forest Hills retains the feel of a wealthy suburban neighborhood while still being close enough to the city to enjoy the advantages of urban living. Although there’s no actual forest anymore, the abundance of trees and shrubberies give the area a natural touch. For a further level of seclusion, nestled within Forest Hills is the beautiful, tree-shaded neighborhood of Forest Hills Gardens, which features large Tudor style homes with (gasp) yards! Also located in Forest Hills Gardens is The Leslie, an infamously exclusive castle-like apartment complex. It’s a very quiet neighborhood; a nice place to raise a family if you can afford it. Because of this, Forest Hills has nurtured many famous residents, from actors to politicians to Spiderman (Peter Parker was from Forest Hills). The large Jewish community in Forest Hills is well-served by local religious centers and kosher amenities. For well-heeled residents of all backgrounds, Forest Hill’s Austin Street is a lively shopping area with lots of high-end stores and shops, including some designer labels. Metropolitan Avenue avenue on the southern border has a small-town, old-main-street feel. Residents with cars can make use of Queens Blvd, a major thoroughfare which runs through the northern part of Forest Hills. Forest Hills enjoys great access by subway via the G, R, V, F, and E trains. Median residential sales prices in Forest Hills are in $600-700K range, which is misleading since many of the listings for Forest Hills are for condos and co-ops, not single-family or detached homes. The grand houses in Forest Hills Gardens and other areas show up for sale infrequently, and asking prices are much higher than $700K. Studio rentals are $900-1300/mo, and 1Br’s average about $1300-1500/mo.
